Frequently Asked Questions

  • Minnesota passed a mandate in 2013 requiring 8 hours of continuing education per year for all licensed plumbers. License renewal is every 2 years, and for each renewal, plumbers must have at least 8 hours of code review and the remaining 8 hours may be either code review or technical/other. All plumbers, including restricted plumbers, MUST have 16 hours of continuing education (CE) by December 31 of their renewal cycle. Masters renew on even years, and journeymen renew on odd years. Registered unlicensed plumbers (what we often call apprentices) are now required to have 2 hours of code review before their annual renewal in June.
  • South Dakota requires 4 hours of CE every year.
  • North Dakota requires 4 hours of CE every 2 years.
